Exterior Doors, Interior Doors and even French Doors in…
Sometimes we can’t be bothered taking on large projects to fix up the home, either because of cost or we just don’t have the skills or patience. But if you’re looking for an easy DIY project that won’t cost you too much and is easy enough for anyone to perform, try a new coat of paint on the front door. It can breathe new life to entry doors!
Start by using a screwdriver to remove the door and then all hardware on the door, including the knocker, peephole, and doorknob. Clean the door entirely and allow it to dry before you delve into the paint bucket. Prep the door first by patching up any cracks with quick-drying wood filler. After it dries, sand the filler so it is flush with the door.
Now we’re ready to prime, unless the current paint is in very good condition. But if you are switching to a darker color, then use primer regardless of the previous paint condition. Prime every inch of the door, otherwise it will absorb moisture. Let it dry completely. If there are still cracks, fill with caulk, let it dry, and re-prime the area. Begin painting with an angled sash brush, working from the top panels down. Use a roller to pain any raised panels. The darker you want the color, the more paint you will need for wood doors.
