Exterior Doors, Interior Doors and even French Doors in…
If you’re installing brand new wood doors in your home, you have to purchase the proper door hardware. That includes locks and latches which allow the doors to securely close. Most interior doors just use a mortise catch, with the main body of the latch attached to the edge of the door. The catch will meet the plate which you attach to the door frame, or door jamb.
For all entry doors and interior doors leading into bedrooms and bathrooms, there will also be door locks for privacy. The most common types of lock sets include mortise lock sets, cylinder and tubular locks, and unit locks. Cylinder locks are the most popular among residential home. In addition to the typical door lock, many also install a deadbolt for even more security. For doors leading to closets and other rooms that don’t need a lock, choose passage latches. When making a purchase for locks and latches, ensure that you know which was your swings so you can correctly install the hardware.
Other important hardware to remember are hinges and handles or door knobs. Hinges have to match up with the weight and function of the door. Interior doors typically have two or three hinges. Three or four should be used on entry doors.
