Interior Doors and Good Care

When it comes to interior doors, you want to care for them the best you can because they are getting the most use. Bedroom doors, bathroom doors, and all the other in between doors get touched, slammed, pushed, pulled, and sometimes really abused. But if you take care of your interior doors, they’ll stand good and strong for a long time.

First, never slam doors. That counts for both opening and closing doors. When you slam a door shut, the vibration goes through the door and can damage the wood and the frame. When you push a door open too hard, it can slam into the opposite wall, usually causing damage to both your wall and your door knob. A rubber door stop on your wall is a great way to keep the door from slamming outwards.

Second, make sure you wash down doors frequently. This can be easily done with most soap and water, as to not chip away paint. Doors get really dirty, especially when people have a tendency to grab the door itself and not the door knob. The more often you scrub it down, the less likely the dirt will really seep into the wood, making it harder to clean in the long run.
